Hey! Look out for that holstein!

Hey there.

I recommend you watch where you step around here. Wouldn't want you to land those nice shoes in anything, if you know what I mean.

Well there's lots of interesting and wise folks around Rural, Vermont that can help you with your farmin' issues. Just about everyone 'round here is growin' somethin' or 'nother. Though it's the bigger farms like mine that give this area some of the charm that visitors like yourselves look for. And cows. Don't know what it is, but there's somethin' about cows that folks go for. Watch your step there. Folks would feel a lot different about cows if they were milkin' 200 of 'em a couple three times a day.

Excuse me now. I have to get this load into the barn.

Garden in the Woods

Garden in the Woods, like all famous beauties, has often had its portrait taken. Its curving paths welcome visitors into a naturalistic garden that explores the exuberance and rich diversity of nature that is lovely from all angles and at any season, changing according to the day and weather. Tractor Safety Course
Tractor Safety courses for youth are being offered around the state this spring. Many are taught by the local vocational agriculture teachers. Check with your local Extension office to find out where the closest one is being held.

Any 14 or 15 ear old who plans to operate a farm tractor for anyone other then their parent or guardian this summer is required, under U.S. Department of Labor regulations, to attend a tractor safety course. Youth who work on the family farm, while not required to attend, by law, should plan to enroll in these classes, as well.

The course, which is offered through the University of Vermont Extension includes 12 hours of classroom work and safety demonstrations. While no hands-on instruction is given on how to operate a tractor, classes cover a wide selection of safety topics including instruments and controls, maintenance and safety checks, hydraulics, ASAE safety standards, and farm and highway safety, among other topics.
