Technically, the post office is closed from noon to two o'clock each day. But I don't mind helping you. Right now I'm just sitting here with Buster enjoying the day.
I've been Postmaster here in Rural for a couple of decades and I know just about everybody's box number or rural route address by heart.
More and more of what you'd call junk mail shows up these days. We have a recycle bin right here in the foyer so folks don't have to cart that unwanted stuff home and then throw it away. They just drop it in the bin and at the end of the week it goes to the dump--I mean the recycling center. If there's something interesting to someone else in the bin they can just take it. I see folks grab magazines and catalogs that others have discarded.
Speaking of dumps, Clara Reed told me about one over in Pawlet, Vermont sounds rather interesting. I'm sure she'll be happy to tell you about it.

You know how there's always one person in town who sort of keeps things going. In Rural, that's Alice. She's got her hands in everything and is always the first to volunteer when something needs doing. You should feel free to send Alice any sort of information. She'll make sure it gets taken care of. Oh, and being owner of the bookstore, she loves finding out about new and interesting books.
She's on top of what's happening with local and state government. If you have a question about services and civic groups, Emily is the one to ask. Emily also welcomes your suggestions for making things run smoothly in Rural, Vermont.
When Dexter's not out hiking through the woods, or star-gazing at night, he's always reading up on outdoors and nature subjects, including rules and regulations. He enjoys mail about anything that relates to the great outdoors in Rural, Vermont.
As innkeepers, Joanne and Jim are very hospitable to strangers. They're not happy unless they're making someone else feel comfortable. They also know of a lot of great places to stay in Rural, Vermont and would be happy to make a suggestion if you're looking for lodging. Just tell them what your likes are, and they'll tell you where they'd recommend you try.
Howard takes farming and agriculture very seriously. He's always thinking and talking about the latest trends and issues in farming. You can ask him just about anything, and he'd happily hear your ideas.
Spends the majority of her time with Rural's students. When she's not teaching at the school, she's volunteering. She enjoys hearing about new ways to reach students, so if you know of any, please share them with her.
I guess selling real estate in Rural is an interesting job. She handles lots of inquiries about buying and selling land and homes in Rural, Vermont. She's a good source if you're considering doing either.
They share their mail with all the children in Rural. Kids love getting mail that's addressed to them. And they get a kick out of hearing from children in other parts.
He too is involved in a lot of different things. While he mainly deals with helping folks find what they're looking for spiritually, I know he works closely with Emily to make sure that folks who have needs get the help they're looking for.
Tom is always thinking numbers. It's in his blood I suppose, but he's forever balancing figures and looking at the bottom line. If you've got a question about banking and finance, Tom is the guy to ask.
As Rural's postmaster I deliver more mail to others than I get personally. But you can send me a note about anything and I'll be sure it gets to the right box. You can also let me know if you know that mail hasn't got through, cause that really burns me up.
