I have just returned to PA from a 5 day trip to Middlebury. What a delightful town! Drove all over and each area visited was delightful. Vermont isn't very large so driving to any place of interest is only an hour or so away. Waiting to hear if my "significant other" has been hired for the position he applied for with "bated breath" and "fingers crossed".......Yes, yes I am a flatlander, but what can I say? Vermont is a place I want to call home.

vermont is a beautful state,i was born and raised in new york city.i moved to vermont when i was 18.i remember how beautiful all 4 seasons were.i lived in the connecticut river valley.best foliage in the world and hiking.

Vermont is of course a special place. However, seeing it change over the last twenty some odd years I can't help but wonder if it's for the better. I welcome the influx of "new" blood by the those who seek refuge from the mind numbing surburan life. However, I do hope they will understand that they may need to change, not Vermont. I have noticed so many of those who come looking for that better life only to change our towns into picturesque resorts and our farms into inns and quaint niche agribusinesses. Meanwhile that which has made so desireable for the last 100 years and rapidly disappearing whilst the so called "native" population either sinks into extinction or abject poverty. So by all means come but don't forget what you left behind. Cheers

I am 33 years old and my wife and I have been scheming a way to live in Vermont. For all the times I have been there, my soul is at peace. I long for a simple life and a place to raise my 2 year old daughter (and one on the way). For all the times, we have visited Vermont, we are never disappointed. I sometimes wonder if it as good a place to live as visit. My goal in life is to get the heck out of New Jersey where people race through life and go a place where life can be experienced. For those young professionals out there who did make the move to Vermont, how was it finding work?

My wife and I plan to move to Vermont within the next five years or so, if everything goes as planned. I may be in for a shock with the winters, but my wife is originally from Michigan, though after 20+ years in Texas, it may take her by surprise as well. She's always wanted to move up north somewhere, and I've always felt drawn to Vermont for some reason. It sounds silly, but I think it may be because of the TV show "Newhart". :) Plus, all the great horror writer come from the New England area: Poe, Lovecraft, King. One question: How do life-long Vermonters feel about people from other states moving in, especially .....Texans?

I have been reading the comments regarding Vermont. I am planning on returning again this summer to find a home or condo. I have been in Vermont about three times. It sounds like Heaven to me. I am reading every book I can on all of Vermont - it sounds as though the Southern part of Vermont is for me - but who knows. I've lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, California, Massachusetts, Grenada (West Indies), Cairo, Egypt, Okinawa, Japan, and Iwakuni, Japan. I have travelled all over the world. I'm still looking, but I'm starting to lose hope that there is a place on this earth more beautiful than Vermont. I am a little biased, being from Vermont - at least I have looked! Vermont is truly a special place. When I lived in Texas I frequently saw a bumper sticker that said "I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as fast as I could". I used to snicker. I knew something they didn't and I wanted to keep it to myself. I am an active duty Marine stationed in San Diego. I miss Vermont terribly. I will retire in 2005 and I'll make a beeline for Vermont. Save some space for me. I want to build a house and provide my children with the very special experience of growing up in Vermont. Remember "ILOVERMONT"? I do.

I have never been to Vermont so it is odd indeed that after researching the entire nation from coast to coast, I would decide to early retire in Vermont over any other state. I'm drawn to the Newfane/Brattleboro area and plan to visit in the summer of 2000. I am a graphic designer and painter and most recently a compulsive gardener. I look forward to getting a first-hand peek at paradise and welcome any thoughts or advice from those familiar with the area.

Just got home from a vacation in West Rupert. We survived the storm, but after 17 hours the powers was still off so we had to leave. Love your web page and congratulations on the back to back award. My husband Al, our daughter Roni and I have a small cabin in the Florence section of Pittsford, about 20 minutes north of Rutland off Rt 7. We have spent many wonder hours swimming at the Chittenden Dam and hiking up the mountain in back of our place. I can't think of a better place to go birding in the Spring or leaf peeping in the fall. When Al and I retire from Southern New England Telephone in a few years, we plan to retire to VT and build a log home somewhere in the Burlington area, perhaps Charlotte or Shelburne. To us, VT is a dream come true. We have yet to be bored or unhappy with the people and most places in the state (I won't say too much about Woodstock or Manchester, yuppidoms answer to Nervana) Thanks for a swell We Site. Ricki

It's been a positively lovely day! Been out shootin' Artic cats as they traverse Rt. 140. Not good eatin', but a nice decoration for the game room. I have been in love with Vermont for most of my adult life and I will 40 in August of 1999. My goal for several years has been to finish raising our family in Vermont (I have 3 grown children and 3 younger ones) and if all goes well we will be residents by June of 1999. The anticipation is overwhelming at times. I am a caterer and cookbook author and look forward to continuing my business after I relocate. However, I love to travel, have seen nearly every other state in the country (I, too, am in the military) and plan to visit your neck of the woods one of these days. Just read about your web site in our Sunday paper. WOW! Now Vermont has everything! My parents are from Vermont (Rutland and Middletown Springs). Even though I have lived in the FingerLakes area of New York State, VERMONT WILL ALWAYS BE HOME! All of my mother's family still lives in the Poultney, Middletown Springs area. It's nice to be able to sit at work and pull up what's happening up home. I just got off the phone with my Aunt Skip in Middletown to tell her about the web site. I was very glad to hear about Rural Vermont. We moved down to Florida 9 yrs. ago and we surely miss the fall,spring and summer-can't really say we miss winter though ( much too long) ! We also miss the clean , clear air and skies of Vermont ; along with the closeness to nature. I personnaly miss the fishing (esp.the trout) and hunting. So it is really nice to find this web site and vicariously feel like we're back in the Green Mountain State. Congratulations, Rural Vermont on being selected for the award of outstanding site. I'm afraid without the award I would never have found out about you, well at least not for awhile. CNN displayed the graphic about your selection and then I Immediately started visiting Rural Vermont, in fact I placed it in my favorite places file. It was great to find out about the Rural, Vermont, website. I lived in Vermont for about 15 years before my job transferred to Virginia. I really miss living there, especially during the fall and winter. There's no fall foliage like there is in New England and not much snow here in Virginia! Visiting your website certainly helps to get rid of some of that homesickness.

We fell in love with Vermont during our first visit 26 years ago. That love has continued to grow year by year. We visit regularly during October at Hill Farm Inn. Each bend in the road offers another spectacular view. Vermonters are wonderful people and encompass all that made America great. We picked up a copy of the Weathervane in October, and just discovered your web site . It is wonderful and we will visit often. Keep those wonderful recipes coming!

My grandson was assigned Vermont for a class report. While searching the web for information we came across your page. We have located an aboundance of information, including ordering information. I knew Vermont was known for the changing colors of the Maple leaves, and the Mayple products. I knew skiing was great, I didn't realize the importance the area put on children. Rodger Abbot a former class mate from Antelope in Wellton, Az had moved to Vermont and has a Maple Farm. The information for Vermont is extensive. The difficulty will be sorting and deleating for a report.
